St. Patrick’s Day Golf

The Dubai Irish Golf Society (DIGS) sponsored by Dubai Duty Free held their annual event on St Patrick’s Day, Saturday 17th March at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.  The weather cleared up just in time for play and helped Denver Farrell have the round of his life and blow away the ‘B’ division with a massive 49 stableford points playing from his 18 handicap.  Following in his wake was Tony Stroud with a superb effort of 45 points and in third place Mark Petrie with a very respectable 42 points.

The ‘A’ division was a closer fought affair with Phil Edmondson accumulating a total of 42 points off his eleven handicap piping Joe Rennicks by one point to win the crystal.  Finishing in third place was Ross Barry with 36 points.

The ladies division was won with a huge margin of 10 points with Catherine Kinnane total of 34 points taking home the spoils.  Louise Doyle finished up with a good effort on 24 points to claim second unchallenged.

Other individual prizewinners for the day were Noel Merrigan, Sandy McPherson, Denver Farrell and Sylvain Denis. DIGS Captain, John Merrigan commented: We were delighted to have such a great turnout of over 80 players. DIGS is very grateful to Dubai Duty Free for their continued support of this event at which we also raised a substantial donation for the Marie Curie Cancer Foundation, in memory of former member Mark Fahy.”

Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free acknowledged the efforts made by the Dubai Irish Society and DIGS in marking Ireland’s national day and said: “I am delighted to see such a good turn out for the DIGS day and some of the results are fantastic.
